Friday Fiction...

The Great Old Ones

The expedition descended into the cavern, where Hollingsworth waited, shaking with anticipation.  A green glow emanated from the wall around a cylindrical object, what Hollingsworth believed to be an ancient alien power cell.
Little did they know of his true nature, as he stood in the luminous cave, a gleam of youth replacing his withered visage.
“This is it.” Hollingsworth wrung his hands. “Power for the occulus demonicus. With it I shall peer beyond the stars into the abyss.”
“Aren’t you afraid of what might be out there watching, waiting, looking back?” An other said.
“No.” Hollingsworth drew a revolver.

Never trust a man named Hollingsworth, as my dad always used to say. Nicely done.

What an interesting twist - I liked how you moved the photo prompt to a different genre! Hollingsworth is a bad man - who's going to get him?!

I'm afraid a lot of characters are in for a surprise this Friday.

Have a great weekend!

Very smooth! I like that, but I have a feeling Hollingsworth will see the abyss in a way he didn't expect, LOL.

Blinded by the light? Loved this story, jS. Did you look up, or make up 'Occulus Demonicus'? Either way, i enjoyed the story. Good job.

Doug
