Friday Flash a bit early...

I found the shunned house as it had endured for centuries.
In the damp earthen cellar I recited cryptic lore from ancient manuscripts bound in the flesh of beasts, written by the erudite wizard, whose name goes unspoken.
I see them as I look out beneath crimson skies, the unearthly fiends that slither in the impenetrable morass of the dark woods. I hear them cursing in terrible voices that I somehow comprehend. They tell me that I cannot leave.
I have no fear for what I have unleashed. The gates are open
I am home.

This photo evokes a lot of shadowy imaginings. You have created a mini-horror story.

You created a wonderful atmosphere.

Consider losing all the "can" words, hate for the strength of this piece to be undermined by three lousy letters.

Good job! Robin

Awesome story! Wonderfully foreboding! Word of caution though: Van Helsing's kid might just be waiting outside! :)

Has a nice Lovecraftian flavor! Just the right kind of darkness to fascinate me.

Macabre. Makes me want to flip on all the lights in the room when I read it. Great job. ;)

This story had the sense of a homecoming that was spooky, but handled just right. I got stuck on the sentence with 'the impenetrable morass of the dark wood' as I thought it was referring to the 'wood' of the old house, which would have made 'morass' a strange choice of words. Upon rereading it twice I figured it out. An 's' added to the word 'wood' would have smoothed my way.

Or perhaps I'm just a little slow on the uptake. Either way, great story. (JBHardy is right, watch out when you go to leave.)

Aloha,

Doug
